Not perfect, but pretty good
I read the other reviews on this site after purchasing my knit-perfect set. I was really afraid that it would let me down after reading the other reviews, but it hasn't. I've now had the set for about 2 months and I have used it frequently. I try to be pretty gentle with my knitting tools, but they do get heavy use. So far, I haven't had problems with the cables snapping or anything in the set breaking. I used the set to knit an adult-sized cardigan and it turned out really well. I really like the versatility of the set- so far, I have used the needles as circular needles, flexible straight needles, and flexible stitch holders. I especially enjoyed using the shorter cables as stitch holders for raglan sleeves on the cardigan I was knitting, because it allowed me to try on the sleeves without stringing waste yarn through the stitches. The wide range in sizes of the needle tips and the various sizes of the cables makes it easy to have pretty much any size straight or circular needle on hand at all times- which is awesome! At my hobby lobby, you can also buy additional cables/needle tips to add to the set so that you'll have more than one of each size in case you want to do 2 projects at once that require the same size needle tip or cable. Although I really do enjoy the set, there are a few things about it that I don't love. When you join cables with the couplings to make extra-long cables, I sometimes find it hard to get the stitches over the couplings between the cables. It's not impossible, but does require a little more effort, which slows things down. However, I have found the sizes of the individual cables to suffice for my projects- even the huge cardigan I made. I don't really need to join cables often, so that problem isn't a deal-breaker. The only other thing I don't like is that the knitting needle tips don't always remain screwed tightly enough to the cables. I haven't had the extreme problems that others have had with this, though. They don't completely come undone or anything. I find that it is pretty easy to fix a loose needle tip if you use the metal keys provided to screw the tips onto the cables really, really tightly. They stay tightened for a long time, but I check every once in awhile and tighten them again if they are getting loose. No, the set is not perfect- but it is pretty good, especially considering the fact that I bought mine with a 40%-off coupon. $45 for a complete circular/straight knitting needle set and flexible stitch holders is an amazing deal. I would recommend this set to others, especially if you have a coupon. Just don't plan on joining the cables to make them extra-long, and you'll be fine.
