The planes (3 of them)appear to be foam / styrofoam. However, they are quite brittle, and won't tolerate being bent without breaking. The nose broke off two of these in the first few minutes. It is not evident from the package, but to make the planes fly, the child must 'snap' the launcher with wrist action to make it work - much like how they would normally throw a paper airplane. There is no rubber band to launch the planes. Save your $14 and buy some thick grade paper to make planes with.(an isle or two over from where this was found) There are some pretty good internet instructions out there. They'll actually learn something that way - and it won't cost you $14.
