A really old kit
The revision of this kit is from 1959. I purchased one about a month and a half ago and have spent a few hours here and there and have now finally finished with it. I would not recomend this to a beginner as there are some problems that have to be corrected. Most specifically with part fitment and mold quality. On at least one of the sprues it seems as though the mold halves had slipped about 1mm-2mm off so the halves of each part were offset. Some parts this was an easy fix but some parts were really noticeable requiring trimming and a little modifying/scratch building/filling to make look right. There isn't a great deal of detail on the parts but iverall they look ok. The superstructure and upper mast components will drive you crazy trying to make the portholes look right and to eliminate the seam lines running RIGHT through the middle due to the way the parts are joined. couple that with the problem of the hull halves being problematic to fit/glue together leaves my recomendation for somebody at least in their late teens with a few kits already under their belt. Now that being said for the $20 or so dollars it costs it was a decent value as any kit of comparable size will easilly run you tripple that amount and even newer mold 1/700 scale kits start out being a little more. It was a fun but sometimes frustrating build. Not for the inexperienced. But for the experienced modeler it offers some interesting challenges at a real good price point.
