I purchased a couple of these boxes after I had purchased one in the past and wanted to work with them again.
In this current version, it is clear they tried to cut costs but still sell the product at the same price. The wood is thinner/cheaper, as is the material they made the feet/handles out of.
While sanding, I avoided sanding the bottom or inside of the removable trays because it felt like any pressure would snap the wood. Tapping on the wood, you can tell the older one was more solid, and this is clearly less durable.
I added a couple layers of resin and embedded paper on the top inset part of the lid, and after completion it became apparent that the jewelry box became too top heavy and tips over. Unless you're just painting the lid, it's utterly useless. I will have to add some something to counter-weight the inside (and take up space) to get this to stand up on all four feet while open.
There were several boxes on the shelf, in store, that had feet that had snapped off.
Halfway through working with my project, throughout all the issues, the handle snapped in half and crumbled in my hand.
I am very disappointed with the new production of this jewelry box and feel I wasted a LOT of time on something that could have been beautiful. I would have purchased a lot of these had they been of slightly better quality.
I accept that "you get what you pay for", but I felt I got a lot more bang for my buck 2 years ago.
This is worthless.
