Best Find of the Year!
WOW, I picked this pearlescent pan watercolor set from my local, Hobby Lobby. You know how it is, you tell yourself you are just going in for 1 or 2 items and something catches your eye. Your not sure if you will even like it but the price is right so you place it in the cart to give it a try. After all you know if you don't like it the kids will have fun with it. Anyway... I already had on hand sketched out daylilies onto a sheet of watercolor paper. I haven't used pan watercolors since 5th grade? I chose that particular sketch because I wouldn't be bothered much if these "cheap paints" ruined it. I moistened my brush and the second I laid the first brush stroke, I was in love! I actually used just these on the entire painting to my surprise the sketch (that I seriously thought about tossing in the trash but kept as a test sheet for my color mixes) was a beautiful work of art. Next thing I know, I have pulled out this large painting I have been working on for sometime, taking great pride in my work. The focal was a, Green Jay (bird) Blues, greens, yellows, a touch of orange, white and black, Sitting on a full bloom Cherry Blossom branch. Although the bird, blossoms and branch were already finished I thought I just had some background work to do. I added a light coat of these paints using the colors listed above to the bird alone. When I was finished it gave my painting a whole new look, suddenly the bird popped of the board. I am positive I will be back to buy many more of these sets. The quality and colors are wonderful. The only beef I can think of is the pan its self. It is a bit flimsy and cracked on me the first time I used them, as small issue compared to the amazing beauty these paints offer. Nothing a piece of tape could not hold together. Thanks again, Hobby Lobby!
